CB is muffled when receiving and sending
My 84 Aspencade has factory radio...cb has been working fine until recently. The last time I tried to use it, the sound is very muffled and cannot be understood. This is both in receiving and sending modes. I recently removed the false tank and reassembled it. Could this be a ground loose? If so, where do I check the ground for the radio unit? Thanks for any help.

If it was working fine prior to removing the false tank, check the connection on the antenna for a start. There is usually a connection in that area

The main grounds are on the bracket of the regulator on the left side and also on the seat brace just aft of the false tank.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

This problem is when using both the headset and external speakers

since the volume controls for the cb radio are separate from the radio you might want to check some of those settings

Some additional info on my CB problem. It seems I can receive "skip" broadcasts, but the problem is when the other CB is in close range of mine. The sound is very muffled and I cannot make out what is being said. Does this sound like an antenna problem? Thanks for any help.

if you are hearing the skip transmissions clearly then its a possibility that what the problem is, is bleed over from other channels from high power cb units from truckers etc
got to remember that the gl's cb's are nearly 30 year old tech

might want to try to find someone local to talk with and test them out approx 500 ft apart, you'll find that for the most part bike to bike transmissions are limited to about 1000 ft effectively usually less,at least mine is

Probably over modulation, but when you say close up..... how close...... if my riding partner is right next to me (parked) and hits the PTT I get a real squeal but under normal riding similar to what neoracer says it is fine.

Yes they are old, we're lucky to still have them working at all.
