I'll definitely be careful with the heater. It's a little unit that screws onto the top of a propane tank and heats a 15' radius. No forced air or anything like that.

Hi DanL1,

I have a couple of those catalytic heaters that screw into a standard (barbeque) tank and give off a pretty good amount of heat -- a bit more than one of those 1500 watt electric space heaters. I used two of these in the winter of 2009 -- then decided to graduate to the "flame thower" because it had REALLY gotten cold.
[In St. Louis, you can't win. Either it gets bone chilling cold or you get tornadoes when it warms up! Confusedhock: ]

Still, it can ignite flammable material and, of course, as its pages of warning literature says can set off a fire with gasoline (petrol) and other combustible fumes if they get loose in the confined space of a garage. :-SS :-SS

{Don't mind me, I'm a cautious, semi-retired safety officer. For 35 years I had been a safety officer for a >1,000 research lab university with the philosophy that even one "accident" was an accident too many! :mrgreen: }

Be safe!

BTW: In addtion to smoke detectors all over my house, I have a moderately priced ($35 @ Walmart) carbon monoxide detector located in the living room directly above the garage. Catalytic or other gasoline burning heaters give off CO. So far my detector hasn't gone off, except once on Thanksgiving Day of 2009. With a house full of guests, I took a couple of teenagers into the garage to show off my 'Wing. I started the engine and revved it for not more than 5 - 10 seconds with the garage door open (!)-- then killed it. About half a minute later, the CO detector alarm above went off with a piercing siren -- scaring the pants off my guests. @-) After opening a window in the living room, the alarm turned itself off. Well, at least it works. :d
