Poorboy Alternator conversion
I am in the process of the conversion on my 86 Interstate. I need some clarification on the wiring portion though (read: Calling all guru's) ...

I have a heavy gauge cable to run from the "tall" post on the geo alternator to the 50 amp relay. Then I will run a short (maybe 1 to 2") cable/wire to the positive side terminal of the battery. OK.

Then, on the back of the alternator I have a 3-spade terminal. One is the ground, one is not used, and then the other goes to...? I need clarification here. It will have a 15 amp fuse installed in it as recommended in the kit. Where does this connect? A photo of the location?

Other: The stock fan will not fit on the "engine" of the radiator even with the spacers provided in the kit. I will probably will have to:
1) Install existing stock fan on the front wheel side of the radiator and reverse the fan (can this be done?). or...

2) See if I can find a really thin electrical fan that will go on the engine side of the radiator out of the way of the alternator belt and pulley.

Any help? I need it.

The exciter wire(the 14ga wire) needs to go to a switched 12 volt source. Most go to the acc. terminal in the upper left corner of the fuse box.
The stock fan will fit. You have to make some adjustments to it.

If you are using a one (1) wire alternator you do not need to concern yourself with the three (3) prong spade plug. It's only required if the alt. is not a true one wire. See below for correct wiring. That cable runs to your fuse (at the battery) and not other wiring is needed. (Be sure to unplug the regulator).

I completely removed the regulator\rectifyer\noise filter.

If you do this you have an 8 pin harness If you number the pins:
1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8

Pin 4 is switched to the ignition so is only used when the motor is running. That's where I connected the exciter for the alt(I did put a seperate 15 amd fuse in just in case...).

Regarding the fan:[attachment=1]
Mounted so:[attachment=0]

I have a pdf of the process. If you'd like it, send me an email and I'll shoot it to you.
