Replacement radio
I know that this has been talked about many times and I have posted the same question at Steves site and maybe here, don't remember. But there has go to be away to tie into the factory wiring to at least salvage the auto volume and amp. We have the wiring diagrams for all so there has to be away. come on you goldwing guru's. let's figure this out. My cassette player doesn't work and reception really stinks, I have seen the bulletin for the trip computer, but don't trust my soldering skills enough to tackle what looks to be a delicate job.

I've not really given that much thought to changing the radio yet because, While I'd enjoy a modern radio with CD and aux. MP3 input, I'm not yet willing to give up the intercom system that the Type III radio controlls...

However..... I do know this guy named Don who owns an '85 Limited Edition and has done the Travel Computer modification sucessfully. I believe if you send the unit to him, he'll not only do the work but also, test it in his bike before shipping it back to you! Or, you can print the service bulletin and take it to a local TV repair shop. They should be able to do the work for I'd guess about $20.00 or so..

I've heard Don works Cheap!! If you meet him he'll only charge you a handshake and a "Cold One" for the work I believe!!!!

If the radio works just pick up a $20. FM transmitter and enjoy the music coming from an SD card. Works great on my Wing and mute on the handlebar works fine if you need some quiet. The biggest plus is no commercials, just music, over 200 songs, that I have personally selected.

I just had an FM Modulator given to me; it is very small and plugs into an ipod. It works very well but it only transmits clearly about 3 feet from the antenna.

Quality and performance seems to vary among the different units so it pays to shop around. Most stores will allow a return if the item does not perform as expected.

I am using on of these and although I have only had it a short time it seems to work really well. Installation is pretty simple. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=scosche&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=9070921445807210210&ei=8SIpTOv9MYL6lweowdH_Bw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDsQ8wIwAg#">http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... Just upgraded my stereo, the old one still worked, wanted to leave that as stock looking as possible.

I purchased a set of Polk Audio DB 401 marine speakers (direct bolt in) with fantastic sound and installed a Mitzu 300 300 watt 2 channel amplifier that I plug my Ipod into.

Absolutely fantastic upgrade. Less than $120.00 total. Bought all on line. We don't use the intercom so it suits us just fine. Tongue
