GL1200 STD carb problems
Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a 1984 gl1200 std with 58k mi on the clock. The PO tried to hot rod it with larger jets and other modifications. All I know is
it runs fine through the gears except 5th (bogs down and slow to accelerate at highway speed). Also, when I deaccelerate, I get a backfire out the carbs. I am rebuilding them and just want to put everything back to stock (i want a smooth cruise, not a muscle bike). Are the main jets 108 or 125? Would either make a difference?

I am getting the randakk kit and CV slide rubbers. My mpg on highway at 70 mph is 33 on a good day. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
J

Yes, jet size will make a dramatic difference. 108-49 states, 125 california model. The california model is easily identified by the carbon canister on the right side of the engine covered by a chrome housing. Just above and aft of the fuel pump. If your spending the money on a quality OH kit, it only makes sense to do it correctly.
