I can't hear the radio through the speakers. It works fine when its hooked up through the head set. Threw the speakers it makes snap crackle pop and headsets are clear
1. Removed radio and put it into a good system and it worked fine 2. Changed Volume control 3. Changed the Amplifier, thought Amp was bad and changed it again. 4. Tried different speakers Did notice when I checked the speakers, one speaker seemed fine and the other seemed th moved. back when I plugged it in. I tried different speakers and no change 1978 Goldwing GL1000 1985 Goldwing GL1200A |

I think you found the problem when you exchanged the radio with a good one.
Try closing the contacts on the back of the radio, that might make a difference. If not talk to Sierra at http://www.sierra-mc.com/ although there is a long waiting list.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Yes I see that NOW... its early morning.
I would look at the contacts at the back of the radio for a start.

Do you have a CB on the bike ?
Could you try another radio in your bike? see if that exhibited the same problems, that could tell you if another component was causing the problem. If you have a CB then the multichanger could be a problem as the signal passes through that.

Satch, I used to have a problem with my radio when I hit a pretty good bump the radio would go off for a second or two. I took the radio out and put some dilectric (not sure of spelling) lube on the contacts and no more problem. Just a thought. Brian

Satch Wrote:No I do not have a CB and I did check the contacts on the radio. But why does the headset work good and not the speakers The headset output is separate from that to the speakers. This is why we stress checking the connections. Your radio works fine in another bike so that eliminates that. Your headset works fine so we can eliminate the junction box. You could isolate the auto volume control by taking the blue 5pin DIN from the radio and connecting it to the red 5 pin DIN that feeds the power amp. Also look at the female connections on the DIN connectors, take a small needle or pin and close the five female contacts slightly and make sure there isnt any corrosion in the DIN connectors.
