CB - MP3 - AVC - New Radio
God you can get wacky reading this forum. And for me that is a short trip  Confusedhock:  Confusedhock:  Confusedhock: Confusedhock: Confusedhock:

THIRD VERSION OF TRYING TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT . . . (success) Smile - - You shoulda SEEN the others . . .

MAIN TOPIC: I'd like to add a CB with Intercom to my 85 Aspencade that came with the Panasonic Cassette / Radio (no intercom / no plugs for headset(s)).

As I read (great) post after (great) post in this forum I am deep into information overload trying to figure out how, or IF, you can get NON-GOLDWING components to work with the Aspencade AVC function (or if it is worth the effort considering usage described below)

I posted in this forum before and Tricky pointed me to the JMCB-2003-DU CB. I read another post from someone who liked this unit also. (Any other CB with Intercom units out there?). I also saw posts where people were installing external audio devices like the JVC KD-G820 to go with the above CB but were running the stereo through the headsets not speakers and could not get the AVC function to operate.

I can go on and on (and I've tried) but I only use the CB when group riding and intercom when not riding solo. I have used a MP3 player via the "cassette with wire" into the Panasonic Cassette and that worked well for me so . . .

Unless somebody says "HEY - - - HERE is how to use the JMCB-2003-DU CB and the JVC KD-G820 that ties into the GoldWing AVC function EASY JUST LIKE THIS . . . . AND you can play sound through the headsets OR the speakers . . . . " I guess using the JMCB-2003-DU CB for my CB and Intercom needs and the MP3 scenario described above is probably the EASIEST course to follow. Also it looks like you can plug the MP3 directly into the JMCB-2003-DU CB as well.

Anybody got an EASY way to tie all this STUFF together? Or just buy and use the CB/Intercom as a standalone unit?

ARGGHHHHHHHHH WAY TOO MUCH GOOD INFO ON THIS FORUM

MORE POINTS

1) Need to replace speakers. Any thoughts? I saw posts to eBay but they were no longer being sold there and the post to Sierra Electric where I think they were at $40 . . . Anybody use other speaker options?

2) My stock Panasonic Cassette player works fine in ONE direction (slow and warrrbles the other). Any thoughts on fixing it? I did take it out and hoped I could find some tape "eaten" into it I could remove but it was just TOO jammed together to see anything. I did see this post "slow cassette player" <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.gl1200goldwings.com/viewtopic.php?t=1464">http://www.gl1200goldwings.com/viewtopic.php?t=1464</a><!-- m --> that points to <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum1/29595.html">http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum1/29595.html</a><!-- m --> and might take a look now that I have THAT info.

3) Use of a USB memory stick to send music to an MP3 player would be GREAT but am not aware of any such devices. How about you? Are you aware of any MP3 Players that accept USB memory sticks? I did look at Tricky's WalMart FM modulator that takes the memory stick and wish I could get FM Modulators to work in this area but tried before unsuccessfully. The Inline FM modulators do not seem to have the USB input option. Not a big deal but curious.

I am IMPRESSED with the diagrams posted throughout this area. WOW!!! I started compiling a list of all the references and that led to MUCHO INFORMATION OVERLOAD

I would just stick to using the external CB separately, unless your an expert and got hold of the terminal component (see one of the diagrams).

There are other fm modulators out there that connect directly into the antenna cable which you might be able to use.

If you havnt bought the MCB-2003-DU CB.
A cheaper way would be to go the way VIC and smuFF have done... a lot lot cheaper.

Smuff runs his cb through to a headset and uses the mike on the headset for the cb.
Unfortunately this way will interfere with any intercom system you may have on or plan to have on. I dont know if the MCB-2003-DU CB. works through a headset or speakers or if it can combine with the radio, thats something you should ask the manufacturer.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Thanks Tricky. I do want the intercom and think I am going to go with the JMCB-2003-DU CB unit used as a separate device and not lose sleep over it. I am far from an expert on things electrical (and most other for that matter  )

The CB is more expensive than I would like but I do want the intercom feature. Hopefully I can use my existing CB helmet, microphone and other stuff so it won't be as expensive as starting from scratch.

I searched for a "Smuff" post on the CB and could not find one.

Thanks again for the prompt response. For that and all of your other assistance, a big THANKS. (cross category reference - circuit breaker for PoorBoy install was really cool)

WOW I called on what the final cost would be for the JMCB-2003-DU CB unit and about fell over. You have to use the JM Microphone and Headsets and other "STUFF". By the time the smoke cleared you are looking at $675. The company I talked to said they had complete Honda Factory CB Units for the same price (more or less) that included all the factory wiring for the headsets, the CB, etc etc. I could use the helmets and microphones I have with my 93 Aspencade but that is a lot of money also. Some people I know bought a CB without intercom and got the whole system with headset, microphone, mounting, etc for $200. That is an easy solution and I am leaning that way for now . . . . With the Facory Honda solution you are talking tearing most everything apart and for the expense, trouble, etc, not sure if the intercom is worth that much effort. WOW.
