Motad Exhaust - 1st ride impressions
IT was overcast and in the mid 40's here in Williamsport on Sunday 01/07. I was able to get a few hours riding in with the new Motad system. THe sound comparison between the old MAC system and the Motad system is like night and day. THe Motads are quiet. I can actually hear induction noise during a WOT acceleration. THe sound is akin to an ST1100 I once owned: a mixture of very very low frequency rumble with induction noise and a hint of motor noise. It's hard to describe but it put a grin on my face all afternoon. I was able to hear my helmet speakers clearly at very very low volume levels - levels which would have been impreceptable before. The bike seemed to accel faster too although I suspect that the preception of increased acceleration was caused by a greater twist of the throttle due to the lack of noise I normally associate with a given amount of throttle. I installed the Motad extensions and have them back as far as they would go - this helps to make things quieter up front I'm sure.

After about 300 miles of highway driving, the header pipes have taken on an ever so slight tan color (I was warned that this would happen by other Motad users) but they're still shiny. It isn't objectionable at all because I know that I'm not going to see the pipes rust as time goes by.

All in all, I'm very glad I saved up and bought the pipes. Big Grin

Nice report Boxerdad. I like this kind of feedback here.

I had an offer on a group purchase of Motad exhaust system. I think they were going to give $75. of if the group purchase was large enough. Sorry I missed you, but, maybe I'll catch a few others here for some savings.

I would like to know if you must re-jetting the carb? with this exhaust system. Is there somewhere a comparaison chart for performance? If there is a performance increase, it's must be a re-jetting. (and I do not whant to find myself the jet setting!!! no no no).
Group purchase, I would like to have more informations please, with the exhaust extension( In Canada) gl1200 1987 Aspencade

According to what I was told no jetting alterations are needed with the Motad exhaust system.

Regarding the group purchase I was told that if I were to arrange a group purchase of 15 buyers or more each buyer in the group would receive a discount of $75. per system. Any takers?

First we find the group of 15 solid buyers then I approach the vendor. Contact me at goldwinger1984@yahoo.com if interested, no dreamers, this is a complete $800 stainless steel exhaust system for the GL1200.
