gas tank vent line
1985 gl1200 aspencade. Twice now my bike has come to a stop while sputtering and trying to run. Not electrical (just doesn't quit running). When the tank is down to a quarter tank and I open the gas cap there is a big whoosh. My guess is the tank isn't venting properly and it kinda gets vapor locked for lack of a better description. Where is the vent line for the tank? I would like to check it and see if it is clogged. Thanks in advance.

Soak the gas cap overnight in seafoam, if it is clogged that will clean it out.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

I use Pine Sol
1986 SEi Limited Edition. 1985 Aspencade
If it's not broke, I can fix that!

okay it's soaking. All the gas caps on bikes that i have owned that were vented had a hole in the top and this one doesnt. Just the design? I did see three small holes in the bottom of the gas cap. Just curious.

The 3 holes vent under the chrome metal cap, therefore you don't see the actual vent, it is hidden

For a moment there you folks had me scratching my head. “Where is the vent line for the tank?” Huh
Dang!! Our California bikes have a tube and a hose coming out the TOP of the gas cap. YOU CAN’T MISS IT!! Dodgy
Then I looked where you folks are from………NOT CALIFORNIA! lol Blush

As was suggested, it should all work.
